Hey guys,
As this week's lesson topic is ‘rules’, it got me thinking about the ‘rules’ we have to follow when speaking English. English is a very old and mixed up language, so sometimes there are some rules that we still follow today, but really there is no logical reason to.
An easy example is spelling. Some words in English have letters that you wouldn’t expect. Any strange spelling you see probably used to make sense, when it was first spelt. But now it doesn’t, and we didn’t change it, so we have odd parts of the language that we just have to remember.
The reason I bring this up is I want to encourage you to not worry too much over the rules of English. Of course they are important, but you will learn them in an organic way by taking in a lot of English material, and practicing as much as you can with speaking. This is particularly true of English, as there are a lot of weird, old rules that can actually trip you up, if you focus too much on them.
Talk as much as you can in lessons, consume as much English material as you enjoy, and use the language that you hear or see(from your teacher, a movie, video game, book, etc).

今週のレッスントピック「規則」は私に、英語を話す時に守らなければいけないルールについて考えさせました。
英語はとても古く、様々な言語が混ざり合っているので、時には今でも守らなければいけないいくつかのルールがあります。しかし実際、そこには理論的な理由は無かったりするのです。
簡単な例としては、綴りがあります。
いくつかの英単語は予想もしないアルファベットを使用します。あなたが目にするどんな奇妙なスペルにも、おそらく一番最初に綴られた時の、何らかの理由があったのでしょう。
今となってはその理由は関係ありませんが、私達はそれを変えなかったので、言語の奇妙な部分をただ覚えなければいけないのです。
私がこの話題を選んだ理由は、皆さんが英語のルールを心配し過ぎないで欲しいからです。もちろんルールは大切ですが、皆さんは多くの英語の教材や、できるだけ多くの会話練習から、本質的に学ぶことができるはずです。
特に英語に関して、これは真実です。もしあなたがこれらを気にし過ぎていたら、沢山の奇妙で古いルールはあなたをつまづかせてしまうでしょう。
レッスンではできるだけたくさん話して下さい。あなたが楽しめる英語の教材をたくさん使って下さい。そして講師や映画、ビデオゲームや本などで見たり聞いたりした英語を使ってみましょう。
